DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation Receives Nomination From the Best of Wheaton 2012 - Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Gamon Awards
The DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation was recently nominated for a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce coveted Gamon Award. These annual awards are nominated by the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce and chosen by the community via an internet poll.
The Gamon Awards are named for William A. Gamon who served twice as mayor of Wheaton. Gamon was a grocery store owner, banker and businessman and founded the precursor to today's Wheaton Chamber of Commerce. Annual awards are given in the following categories: Community Development and Improvement, Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Small Service Business of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, Best Marketing Campaign of the Year, Top Young Professional, Small Not-for-Profit of the Year, Large Not-for-Profit of the Year and Wheaton Chamber Citizen of the Year.
DuPage County Historical Museum (DCHM) Foundation is a 501c3 recognized by the State of Illinois. The Foundation's primary function is to raise funds to support DCHM's mission to educate the general public through the collection, preservation, interpretation, and exhibition of materials which document the history of DuPage County and its relationship to Illinois and the nation, and to provide local history services for historical organizations and for scholarly endeavors.
DuPage County Historical Museum Association was first organized in 2004. Following the Intergovernmental Agreement between Wheaton Park District and DuPage County the Association was reorganized as the DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation.
DCHM Foundation focuses on several key initiatives to support the Museum including:
Casino Night: This event was started by Museum staff in 2010. On March 2, 2012, Casino Night was held in the Museum Auditorium, the event captured the era of prohibition with an "underground" speakeasy action, drinks and stations with tasty treats.
Music and Lecture Series: Launched in Fall 2011, this series entertains with both music and lecture scheduled quarterly throughout the year. Guests will enjoy a short concert as well as a guest speaker while sampling wine and hors'd oeuvres from local vendors.
Membership: While DCHM is a free museum (donations appreciated), members receive some unique benefits. Please see the Membership page for more detailed information.
Annual Fund and Major Gifts Program: Twice each year friends, visitors and supporters of the museum are contacted to support through a sponsorship or monetary gift. Funds from the Annual Fund and Major Gifts program are allocated for specific programs, exhibits and general operations.
Planned Giving: Show support for the DuPage County Historical Museum for future generations. Memorial gifts and bequests should be made to the DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation.
